1.  Watch Out For Bad Advice

CopingKnow that you will receive a lot of lousy advice, so learn to listen only to trusted family members and long-time friends. If one of them is a widow, or lives alone, seek her out. Further, do nothing quickly, or without several consultations. Well-meaning people came to me when I was a widower and asked what I was "going to do with the children." Was I planning on selling the house? I neither sold the house nor did I do anything with my three kids, who proved to be my anchor, my grip on reality, the very reason for getting up every morning.
